06/04/2010 - Kansas City, MO (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Jason Kendall collected three hits and drove in three runs, as Kansas City logged a 7-3 win against Detroit in the opener of a three-game series from Kauffman Stadium.

Scott Podsednik scored three times, had two hits and knocked in one, while David DeJesus notched two RBI for the Royals, who won for just the second time in seven games.

Bruce Chen (2-0) got the start and lasted five-plus innings while surrendering two runs on four hits to get the win.

Detroit's Max Scherzer (2-5) was reached for five runs and nine hits in five- plus innings in the loss. Brennan Boesch hit a three-run homer to account for the offense.

The Royals put up a three-spot in the second inning to open the scoring. Mike Aviles singled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Yuniesky Betancourt. Podsednik worked a two-out walk to follow and Kendall scored Mitch Maier with a single.

DeJesus came through with another base hit for the three-run edge, then lifted a sacrifice fly in the fifth.

The Tigers got three back with one swing on Boesch's home run in the sixth. Magglio Ordonez drew a leadoff walk and Miguel Cabrera singled to chase Chen. Kyle Farnsworth came on to allow the three-run poke to right, before fanning three of the next four batters to avoid further damage.

Kansas City was back at it in the home sixth, scoring three times on a Podsednik RBI single and a two-run base hit from Kendall off reliever Ryan Perry.

Robinson Tejeda took over the bump in the seventh for KC and fired two scoreless frames and Kanekoa Texeira worked around an error in the ninth in his Royals debut.
